Gummy Bear osmosis
Aim
I want to find out what happens to Gummy Bears when they are put into different solutions.
Prediction: I predict that they will dissolve into the solutions.
Method: get your equipment and put on your safety glasses, using the marker pen.write the name of the condition on the petri dish.DRY, WATER, SALTWATER, SUGAR WATER.weigh gummy bear and write the weigh on the the petri dish measure 40ml of the solution and pour it into the petri dish.
equipment:
1. 4x gummy bears
2. 2x petri dishes
3. paper towels
4. marker pen
5. water
6. sugar water
7. salt water
8. electronic balance
9. beaker
10. measuring cylinder
step 1. get your equipment.
step 2. put on your safety glasses
step 3. using the marker pen.write the name of the condition on the petri dish.DRY, WATER, SALTWATER, SUGAR WATER
step 4. weigh gummy bear and write the weigh on the the petri dish.
step 5. measure 40ml of the solution and pour it into the petri dish.
| Dry | Water | saltwater | Sugar water |
Initial weight of gummy bear | 5.81g | 5.36g | 5.73g | 5.45g |
Final weight | 5.70g | 6.52g | 6.22g | 6.05g |
Weight difference | Lost 0.11g | Gain 1.6g | Gain 1.16g | Gain 0.60g |
Initial volume |
| 40ml | 40ml | 40ml |
Final volume |
| 0ml | 10ml | 7ml |
Volume Difference |
| Lost 40ml | Lost 30ml | Lost 33ml |
Discussion
1.The normal water was transferred into the gummy bear the most.
2.The dry gummy bear lost 0.11 grams over a week.
3.The sugar water diffused faster than the salt water
Diffusion is the movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.Diffusion happens in liquid and gases because their particles move randomly from place to place.Diffusion is an important process for living things.
