Butterfly life cycle

  Butterfly life cycle

Have you ever wondered how caterpillars turn into butterflies? If you don’t know then I’m going to tell you about butterfly life cycle, and butterflies are really cool!

There are four stages in a life of butterflies.

First a butterfly lays an egg on a plant called milkweed all different kind of butterflies lay eggs on certain type of plants. Then a caterpillar hatches out of it (it takes about four weeks for a butterfly egg to hatch) when the eggs are slowly turning darker that means the eggs are going to hatch out soon.

Second when the caterpillar has hatched out it starts eating the plant. These are all the types of plants that a caterpillar eats.

Finally the plants they eat are called host plants, those are plants that you can maybe  find in your garden. As it eats, it grows and molts out of its skin to get even bigger, a fully grown caterpillar is about 45 mm long and repeats it until a fully grown caterpillar. It attaches itself to a plant hanging from the top and sheds its skin a last time relieving its chrysalis. Inside, the tissues that made up the caterpillar finally formed a head and body, six legs and four wings.

This is a picture showing how a caterpillar goes into its chrysalis and comes out as a butterfly.
